>> An Olympic torchbearer in Brazil was removed from the relay procession by security forces after protesting against interim president Michel Temer in a rather unusual way.

Tarcisio Carlo Rodrigues Gomes, a local musician, began his jog with the torch in the streets of Rio de Janeiro wearing the official Rio 2016 uniform: yellow and white shorts and matching shirt.

A band of trumpet, trombone and drum players accompanied the artist through the streets as thousands watched from the sidelines. Close to the end, Cisao took off his bermudas to reveal a leopard-print thong with the the phrase "Fora Temer," translated "Temer Out," painted on his butt.

“It’s a coup d’etat,” Cisao told AFP after he was taken away by police. The torch was passed to another runner.

Actor Daniel Galvao, who was part of the street band, said the protest was intended to embarrass Temer, who was imposed as president by the Senate after elected president Dilma Rousseff was ousted.

Cisao is a popular figure in the Brazilian carnival scene and plays music for several different groups...

[...] Earlier, police used tear gas to disperse a small student demonstration that blocked the streets of Niteroi where the torch runners were supposed to pass. <<
